GEOMETRIC INEQUALITIES FOR CERTAIN SUBMANIFOLDS IN A PINCHED RIEMANNIAN MANIFOLD

This article gives some geometric inequalities for a submanifold with parallel second fundamental form in a pinched Riemannian manifold and the distribution for the square norm of its second fundamental form.

On <Emphasis Type="Italic">τ</Emphasis>-adic representations of integers

Elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECCs) have become increasingly popular due to their efficiency and the small size of the keys they use. Particularly, the anomalous curves introduced by Koblitz allow a complex representation of the keys, denoted τNAF, that make the computations over these curves more efficient. In this article, we propose an efficient method for randomizing a τNAF to produce different equivalent representations of the same key to the same complex base τ. We prove that the average Hamming density of the resulting representations is 0.5. We identify the pattern of the τNAFs yielding the maximum number of representations and the formula governing this number. We also present deterministic methods to compute the average and the exact number of possible representations of a τNAF.      

Static and dynamic properties of heavy light mesons in infinite mass limit

We summarize the consequences of the infinite limit of heavy quark mass in the results of form factors, charge radii and decay constants of heavy light mesons within a QCD inspired quark model recently reported.

Incoherent scattering of 59.5 keV gamma-rays by light,medium and heavy elements

Summary Total atomic incoherent-scattering differential cross-sections were determined experimentally for 59.5 keV gamma-rays in Ti, Ni, Zn, Se, Mo, Ru, Cd, Sn, Te, Yt, W and Pb at 120° scattering angle using Ge(Li) detector. The background correction and detection efficiency are also included in the study. The experimental values have been compared with those estimated on the basis of the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock wave functions. Good agreement is observed between theory and experiment.

Analysis of discrete time queues via the reversed process

A class of discrete-timeM/G/1 queues, including both round robin and last come first served service, in which customers are subject to permutations is considered. These time slotted queues, analogous to the symmetric queues of Kelly, are analyzed by examination of the time reversed process. Product form stationary distributions are found for a type of doubly stochastic server of Schassberger [5] and for a Bernoulli arrival process queue model of Henderson and Taylor [2].     

Weak stability of almost regular contact foliations

We prove that on a compact manifold, a contact foliation obtained by a smallC ¹ perturbation of an almost regular contact flow has at least two closed characteristics. This solves the Weinstein conjecture for contact forms which areC ¹-close to almost regular contact forms.Supported in part by NSF Grant DMS 90-01861
